The Dalmore

The Dalmore er et skotsk whisky destillery med en meget lang historie bag sig. Selve destilleriet er ikke fra 1263, men det er historien bag deres brand. Tilbage i 1263 var kongen af skotland, Alexander den 3. , på jagt med et selskab af adelsmænd. Iblandt dem var Colin af Kintail, lederen af MacKenzie klanen. Under jagten stormede en hjort pludselig imod kongen og den eneste der reagerede var Colin. Han stak sit spyd igennem kraniet på kronhjorten, imens han råbte “Cuidich ‘n’ Righ” – hvilket på gallisk betyder “Red kongen”.

Som tak for at Colin havde reddet hans liv, gav kongen ham området Eilean Donan, mottoet “Luceo non uro” der direkte oversat betyder “Jeg skinner, men brænder ikke” og vigtigst af alt logoet med den 12-takkede hjort.

I 1839 grundlagde Alexander Matheson destilleriet The Dalmore. Efter 28 år besluttede han at det var på tide at nye friske hænder overtog destilleriet og på den måde blev det overtaget af Andrew og Charles Mackenzie, efterkommere af Colin Mackenzie. De tilføjede den 12-takkede hjort som logo til destilleriet og førte destilleriet videre derfra.
